New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that households’ seasonally adjusted saving rate – the proportion of income that is left over after current consumption – stood at 19.8% in the second quarter of 2026.
This was above both the 19.3% rate in the first quarter of this year and the 18.8% average since the start of 2023.
The CSO said that households added almost €1 to their wealth for every €5 of disposable income in the three months from April to June of this year.
When adjusted for seasonal patterns, the CSO said that both consumer spending and disposable household incomes increased on a quarterly basis in the second quarter with rising incomes resulting in the increased saving rate.
