Members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) will hold lunchtime protests at hospitals across the country over delays in agreeing a new public sector pay deal.
It comes ahead of planned strikes by public sector workers on 14 October and 21 October.
“INMO members will be protesting over cost-of-living measures and the impact it is having on staffing in work locations,” the union said in a statement.
Since last week, workers across the public sector have been engaging in industrial action in the form of a work-to-rule.
Unions have accused the Government of failing to make meaningful commitments on pay following the expiration of the last public sector agreement at the end of June.
On Tuesday, the Government announced that funding of €1.2 billion has been allocated in the Budget for a public sector pay deal.

In his Budget speech, Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers said the “significant provision” demonstrated the seriousness of the Government in its desire to reach a new agreement.
“I would now call on ICTU and other associations to match this intent by re-engaging as a matter of urgency and standing down the ongoing industrial action,” Mr Chambers said
Unions said however that the €1.2 billion allocation is not enough to resolve the current pay dispute.
“The Government has demonstrated fiscal capacity elsewhere in the Budget but has apparently not allocated enough to resolve a pay dispute that is now escalating,” according to a statement from the Public Services Committee of Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
