The Government is considering raising the weekly State pension by €7.50 as part of Budget 2027.

The figure will bring the non-contributory State pension to €295.50 a week for anyone aged 66 to 79, and €305.50 for anyone aged 80 or over, as was reported in the Irish Independent this morning.

While less than the €10 increase last year, Government sources have said any increase would likely need to take account of other competing requirements such as a potential bonus fuel allowance week to cope with the global energy crisis.

No final decision has yet been made on the agreed pension increase level, or similar increases for social welfare payments, which have been repeatedly called for by Opposition parties and campaign groups in recent months.

The Government leaders Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Simon Harris and Independent minister Seán Canney are due to hold their weekly meeting on Monday to iron out an agreed position, before Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers holds eleventh hour talks with various ministers next week.
