Inflation in the 21-nation euro zone rose less than previously estimated in August, revised official data showed today.
Inflation in the single currency area slowed to 3.2% last month, a slight change from the 3.3% figure published on September 1, the EU’s statistics agency said.
Consumer price rises in the euro zone reached 2.9% in July.
Inflation in countries using the euro remains above the European Central Bank’s 2% target.
Food and drinks inflation also slowed to 1.1% in August, down from 1.2% in July, according to the revised data. The September 1 reading said the rate remained unchanged.
Inflation in France, the EU’s second biggest economy, was also revised down, rising 2.6% in August rather than the previous estimate of 2.7%.
The ECB raised interest rates last week for the second time this year as renewed Middle East fighting fans fears of higher inflation, and opened the door for further hikes.
