Air Canada has announced a direct route between Shannon and Toronto, which will begin flying in June 2027.
The non-stop service will connected Shannon Airport with Toronto Pearson International Airport, with three flights a week between June and October.
Air Canada plans to use the new Airbus A321XLR, which is a narrow-body plane that’s designed to fly on long-haul routes. At maximum seating capacity, it can carry 244 passengers, according to Airbus.
“When an airline the scale of Air Canada chooses Shannon, it sends a powerful signal about the strength of the west of Ireland market and its international potential,” said Ray O’Driscoll, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group. “Securing this service has been a key priority for us and reflects years of work by our Aviation Development team.”
According to Shannon Airport, the new route will represent the only direct service between the airport and Canada, and will open the door to numerous connecting flights across North and South America.
Both Shannon Airport and Air Canada also sexpect the route will prove popular with tourists on both sides of the Atlantic.
“This new Air Canada service is set to deliver a significant economic boost for Ireland, opening the door to more Canadian visitors than ever before and driving tourism growth across the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and destinations nationwide,” said Mr O’Driscoll.
“Demand for travel to Canada from Irish holidaymakers has been growing consistently over the past number of years,” said Bláithín O’Donnell, Air Canada’s sales maanger for Ireland. “This new Shannon-Toronto service opens a whole new world of transatlantic travel possibilities for travellers in the west and south of Ireland.”
The Shannon-Toronto route is one of a number of new services announced by Air Canada today.
It also plans multiple weekly connections between Toronto and Oslo, and Toronto and Nice from next summer. Today it also unveiled new services between Vancouver and Guangzhou, Montréal and Basel, and Montréal and Dubrovnik.
