IKEA has opened its eighth Plan and Order Point in Ireland, located in Galway at Gateway Retail Park, and its first in the west of the country.
IKEA Ireland’s newest location is set across two commercial levels, and features a ground-floor “mini markethall” holding a dedicated range of 250 home furnishing accessories and a curated selection of 25 best-selling furniture lines for immediate takeaway.
The new store also showcases 30 displayed home furnishing solutions, including kitchens, wardrobe setups, living rooms and roomsets, supported by a digital range presentation and has created 13 jobs in the city.
It also provides a Click & Collect service offering up to 100 pickup slots a day, which will allow customers to order any item from the full global IKEA range online and collect it locally free of charge.
IKEA said the new store operates on a cashless basis, accepting card and digital payments only.
The retailer has already opened other ‘Plan and Order’ sites including in Cork, Sligo and Louth.
Jayne Owen-Gauld, Market Manager at IKEA Ireland, said the Galway investment brings the IKEA experience closer to customers across the West of Ireland, making it easier and more convenient to access its planning expertise, affordable home furnishing solutions and full online range.
Mayor of Galway, Councillor Helen Ogbu said that today marks a major moment for retail in the West of Ireland.
“As a city committed to innovation and sustainable growth, we are pleased to welcome IKEA’s investment in Galway and the additional choice it will bring to local customers,” she said.
Minister of State for Retail and Circular Economy Alan Dillon said the opening of the IKEA store is a welcome investment in regional retail and a positive example of how major brands can bring services closer to communities across Ireland.
“Supporting local employment and improving access to home planning services in the West, this new location is a welcome addition for customers and the wider retail sector,” he added.
