NTMA to increase Ireland State Savings rates

The National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) has announced it is increasing the rates that apply to new issues of Ireland State Savings fixed term products with effect from 30 August.

Ireland State Savings is the brand name used to describe the range of Irish Government savings products offered by the NTMA to personal savers.

It offers Fixed-Term fixed-rate savings products, Prize Bonds and Deposit Accounts.

The NTMA said rates across fixed term products are to increase by up to 0.65% (AER).

It added that the variable rates on Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) deposit accounts are to increase by 0.5% (AER) to 1.25%

While the Prize Bond fund is to increase to 1.5 times its current level, with 10,000 prizes expected to be awarded every week.

The variable rate used to calculate the monthly prize fund for Prize Bonds will also increase with effect from 1 September 2026.

The NTMA’s Director of Funding and Debt Management, Dave McEvoy, said: “Retail savings are an important element of the NTMA’s funding strategy providing diversification in our funding and investor base.

“In setting rates on Ireland State Savings, the NTMA seeks a balance between providing customers with a safe and competitive savings option and providing long-term value to the Exchequer in terms of managing the cost of borrowing.”

The total value of Ireland State Savings holdings was €23.9 billion at end June 2026.

Welcoming today’s announcement, the Tánaiste and Minister for Finance said the increase in rates will help savers and make peoples money go further.

“It will also provide increased prize fund for Prize Bond holders with the variable rate used to calculate the prize fund increasing to 1.5%, while also supporting the valuable conduit that Ireland State Savings provide for the Irish State to raise funding.

“The Ireland State Savings Digital Development Programme has improved accessibility and convenience for customers, complementing the traditional service provided through the post office network. “
