The Financial Services Union (FSU) has called on the Government to ensure that trade union representatives are invited to contribute at the AI Summit in October.
The event is being held in Dublin as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The FSU said that the summit will include panel discussions on the future of AI in the workplace and that it is disappointing that worker representatives have not been invited to take part.
“The employees who will be directly affected by the effects of AI, whose jobs are under threat and who industry is failing to upskill should be at the core of any decision making on AI,” said John O’Connell, General Secretary of the FSU.
“Industry alone cannot be responsible for regulating the introduction of AI,” Mr O’Connell said.
The union said that Minister for AI Niamh Smyth should immediately expand the invitation to trade unions to attend the summit.
