Advanced sports pitch technology provided by Co Sligo-founded SIS Pitches is in action on football’s biggest global stage this weekend.
SIS Grass Hybrid is being used at the New York New Jersey Stadium, which will host the World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain on Sunday.
The company’s system sees synthetic fibres stitched into the surface across the field to provide increased durability enhanced root growth. This helps each hybrid pitch recover and perform consistently across different climates and grass types.
SIS Pitches contributed to playing surfaces across nine of the 16 host stadiums across the US, Canada and Mexico. As well as New York New Jersey, SIS Grass Hybrid was used in San Francisco, Miami, Kansas City, Toronto and Monterrey.
The company has also been involved in projects at some of the country’s most high-profile grounds including Donnybrook Stadium in Dublin, Thomond Park in Limerick, the Connacht GAA Air Dome at Bekan in Co Mayo, the two indoor pitches at the FAI and the IRFU’s High Performance Centre at Sports Ireland Campus in Blanchardstown.
It also completed a full pitch construction of Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork.
George Mullan, the company’s executive chairman and founder of SIS Pitches, said that seeing the company’s technology present at nine of the 16 stadiums being used this summer is a huge moment for SIS Pitches and a reflection of the reputation it has around the globe.
“Having been heavily involved in the previous two tournaments in Russia and Qatar, and also involved in Germany, we understand how important it is that our technology works alongside that of other partners to ensure each pitch system performs as intended,” he said.
