A Co Galway plant sales company was found to owe Revenue more than €106.6m following an investigation by the tax authority.
In its latest Tax Defaulters List, Revenue said LPS International Plant Ltd, which was based in Knockdoe in Claregalway, under-declared VAT to the tune of more than €46.2m.
It added almost €14.17m in interest and more than €46.2m in penalties, bringing the total owed to exactly €106,609,749.
The vast majority of that – €106,240,267 – remains outstanding, according to Revenue.
Company records show that LPS International was incorporated in November 2016, specialising in the import and export of plant machinery.
In 2023 it listed one director; Michael Leonard of Knockdoe, Claregalway, Co Galway. At the end of 2023 it had a profit of €3.6m, up from €1.9m the previous year.
The company is now in liquidation.
The latest Tax Defaulters’ List includes a second case relating to MPL Plant Hire Ltd, which was also based in Knockdoe in Claregalway and which also lists Michael Leonard as its sole director.
Following an audit the plant hire and sales firm was found to owe almost €1.86m in under-declared PAYE/PRSI/USC and VAT. Revenue added €604,449 in interest, and almost €1.86m in penalties – bringing the total owed to just under €4.32m.
Just over €4.12m of that remains outstanding.
The company is now in liquidation.
Separately, the Tax Defaulters’ List details the €1.75m owed by Co-Wexford landlord and solicitor John Reid of Tara Hill in Gorey.
That was made up of €792,280 in under-declared income tax which was identified following an audit. A further €736,086 was added in interest, with €234,693 added by way of a penalty.
The total amount remains outstanding.
In total Revenue settled 21 cases in the period, worth a total €117m.
The list also included a further 84 cases relating to court-imposed fines, worth a combined €147,927.
