Shannon Airport’s route network is set to expand to 40 routes this year

Passenger numbers at Shannon Airport passed the 2.3 million mark in 2025, up 9% year on year and 34% above 2019 pre‑pandemic levels.

This made 2025 Shannon Airport’s best year in 16 years and its fifth consecutive year of growth.

The Shannon Airport Group’s annual report shows strong growth on the airport’s European services last year, which rose by 13%.

UK traffic increased by 8%, with Heathrow passenger volumes reaching an 18-year high.

Shannon’s route network is set to expand to 40 routes this year, the largest in over 17 years. This includes five new European services to Rome, Warsaw, Madrid, Poznań and Frankfurt.

The airport noted that its five transatlantic routes to New York, Newark, Boston and Chicago continue to play a central role in the Co Clare’s airport offering.

The Shannon Airport Group said it reported a “solid” financial performance in 2025.

Turnover increased by 7% on 2024 to €78.4m, while the group’s reported EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortisation) rose by 6% to €19.3m.

Its pre-tax profit for the year stood at €30.5m, which The Shannon Airport Group said underpinned a strong asset base of €334m and allowing for the next phase of its strategic development.

It invested more than €20m last year, bringing total investment over the past decade to almost €200m, with a further €40m planned for projects this year.

Planned developments include extensive upgrades to the airport’s immigration area and baggage hall, enhancements to taxiway infrastructure, and a thermal, energy‑efficient facelift to the outside of the terminal building.

Meanwhile, the Shannon Airport Business Park – home to over 300 companies and 10,000 employees – also continued to perform strongly last year, nearing full occupancy, and attracting “high‑value, innovation‑led tenants”.

Construction started on a €13m commercial property development in November, which will deliver two state-of-the-art industrial units – Blocks Y & Z – and will add about 100,000 sq. ft. of flexible, sustainable space.

Ray O’Driscoll, interim CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, said that 2025 was a positive year with the group delivering strong passenger growth, strengthened international connectivity and continued investment in infrastructure and sustainability initiatives.

“We are encouraged by our financial performance, and with our growing asset base, we are on a solid financial footing to launch the next phase of our development strategy. These results reflect the continued support of our stakeholders, partners and customers, and the exceptional commitment of our teams,” he said.

Mr O’Driscoll said the group will continue to expand its route network, enhancing connectivity and delivering a positive experience for every passenger.

“Our property portfolio will support both multinational investment and indigenous enterprise, driving economic growth across the region. While global uncertainty continues to be a significant factor, our focus is firmly on long-term growth, regional development, advancing our sustainability goals and delivering for the communities we serve,” he added.
