{"id":50423,"date":"2026-10-21T01:22:41","date_gmt":"2026-10-21T05:22:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sharewatch.com\/wp\/2026\/10\/21\/30-rise-in-payments-for-crisis-hit-sheffield-households\/"},"modified":"2026-10-21T01:22:41","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T05:22:41","slug":"30-rise-in-payments-for-crisis-hit-sheffield-households","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sharewatch.com\/wp\/2026\/10\/21\/30-rise-in-payments-for-crisis-hit-sheffield-households\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a330 rise in payments for crisis-hit Sheffield households"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-testid=\"rich-text\" data-block=\"text\">\n<p><b>Crisis payments for people in Sheffield who are facing severe financial difficulties have been raised by \u00a330.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Single person households which qualify for help from Sheffield City Council&#8217;s crisis and resilience fund will now be entitled to a one-off payment of \u00a395, up from \u00a365 previously.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, two-person households can apply for a payment of \u00a3110, while homes with three or four people are entitled to \u00a3120 if they qualify and households with five or more people can get \u00a3130, the authority confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the change, councillor Elle Dodd, chair of the authority&#8217;s finance and performance policy committee, said life was &#8220;difficult and expensive&#8221; for &#8220;too many people&#8221; in Sheffield. <\/p>\n<p>The fund can be used to help people buy essentials such as food, toiletries and utilities, the council&#8217;s website stated.<\/p>\n<p>The increase was put in place after a cost-of-living review conducted by the committee, which is made up of a group of Sheffield councillors. <\/p>\n<p>The review found almost 50,000 households in Sheffield were struggling to make ends meet and could not pay their bills.<\/p>\n<p>At least 7,000 crisis grants, totalling nearly \u00a3600,000, have already been awarded by the council since April.<\/p>\n<p>Dodd said: &#8220;Behind every statistic is someone making impossible decisions, feeling stressed and looking for a little breathing room. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are determined to tackle the root causes of poverty, and to provide immediate support to those who need it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are keeping tackling poverty and the cost of living firmly on the agenda.&#8221; <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crisis payments for people in Sheffield who are facing severe financial difficulties have been raised by \u00a330.
