Betting giant and Paddy Power owner Flutter Entertainment has today named company veteran and head of its international division Dan Taylor as incoming CEO.<\/p>\n

Dan Taylor will succeed Peter Jackson who said he and the board had agreed it was the right time for new leadership. Peter Jackson has been CEO for the last nine years.<\/p>\n

Flutter is the world’s largest online betting company.<\/p>\n

Mr Taylor, who will take over from October 1, had only assumed the expanded role of Flutter president in May to oversee the group’s underperforming US operations, part of a management shake-up at its market-leading FanDuel brand which saw the departure of Amy Howe.<\/p>\n

Flutter made the announcement today as it cut its full-year core profit forecast for a fourth successive quarter, this time due to planned investment in the US. That was despite a lower-than-expected second-quarter fall and a strong third-quarter start.<\/p>\n

Flutter’s shares, which have dropped 65% over the last year as investors assess the potential impact fast-growing prediction markets may have on sports betting, were 7% lower in pre-market trading.<\/p>\n

“The board and I have agreed that now is the right time for a new leader to guide Flutter into its next chapter,” Jackson told Reuters when asked if the decision to leave the Irish-founded group was his alone.<\/p>\n

Flutter Chair John Bryant thanked Jackson for transforming the group into the world’s largest online betting company with annual revenue of $16 billion compared to just $2 billion when he took charge almost nine years ago.<\/p>\n

Taylor has been with Flutter for more than a decade and was in charge of its main UK Paddy Power Betfair brands from 2018 to 2020 before becoming head of all non-US operations where he oversaw a number of big acquisitions in Italy and Brazil. <\/p>\n

He will be tasked with reversing fortunes at FanDuel, which had been growing rapidly until the last year, while both seeing off the threat posed by dominant prediction market players such as Polymarket and Kalshi, and making its own moves in the space.<\/p>\n

Flutter’s second-quarter core earnings (EBITDA) fell 45% to $508m, still above the $478m average estimate of 19 analysts with LSEG SmartEstimate.<\/p>\n

However, it forecast a 7% fall in full-year core profit to $2.65 billion, below the $2.87 billion it flagged in May and $2.79 billion expected by analysts. The planned investments are expected to hit profit by $270 million.<\/p>\n

Analysts had expected earnings to grow to $3.5 billion as recently as February before Flutter issued disappointing guidance for the year.<\/p>\n

“Investing behind customer momentum is an approach that has consistently served us well. Our momentum, and the current market dynamics, mean now is the right time to move from a focus on margin growth, to prioritising AMP (player) growth and customer value,” Peter Jackson said.<\/p>\n

Peter Jackson also said it has been a privilege to lead Flutter’s transformation, adding that he was incredibly proud of what it had achieved over nearly nine years.<\/p>\n

“Flutter is a fantastic business, with a portfolio of world-class brands, talented colleagues and genuine competitive advantages,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Having worked closely with Dan for many years, I have seen first-hand his ability to grow businesses, build strong teams and deliver exceptional results. I leave with great confidence in Dan, the leadership team and the company’s future,” he added.<\/p>\n

Dan Taylor said he was taking on the role of group chief executive at such an important time for Flutter.<\/p>\n

“Our priority will be to keep delivering for our colleagues, customers and shareholders, while building on the momentum we’ve created across the business,” Mr Taylor said.<\/p>\n

“The opportunities ahead are significant – both those we see in the market today and those we will create ourselves in the future. I look forward to leading the business as we continue to innovate, grow and build on the strengths that make Flutter unique,” he added.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
