{"id":43079,"date":"2026-07-03T00:22:53","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T04:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sharewatch.com\/wp\/2026\/07\/03\/tech-worker-wins-claim-as-e150k-salary-unpaid-for-months\/"},"modified":"2026-07-03T00:22:53","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T04:22:53","slug":"tech-worker-wins-claim-as-e150k-salary-unpaid-for-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sharewatch.com\/wp\/2026\/07\/03\/tech-worker-wins-claim-as-e150k-salary-unpaid-for-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Tech worker wins claim as \u20ac150k salary unpaid for months"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"medium-10 medium-offset-1 columns article-body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-epic-field=\"content\">\n<p>A tech firm employee who signed up for a job with a \u20ac150,000-a-year salary, but ended up &#8220;unable to heat her home&#8221; having received just \u20ac11,500 in 11 months of employment has won a claim for her unpaid wages.<\/p>\n<p>The Workplace Relations Commission has awarded \u20ac126,000 in back pay to the unidentified worker under the Payment of Wages Act 1991 in an anonymised decision published today.<\/p>\n<p>The employee told a tribunal hearing in Ennis, Co Clare, in May that she was persuaded by the CEO of the tech firm she joined to leave a permanent, pensionable job for the new position in March 2025.<\/p>\n<p>She was the mother of a child with a disability and had spent decades working in special education she said, and was &#8220;enthusiastic&#8221; to get involved with setting up support services for children with mental health difficulties, which included the development of an app.<\/p>\n<p>However, there was trouble with salary payments from the start, she said.<\/p>\n<p>In late March and early April 2025, the CEO told her payroll was delayed because someone from accounts was &#8220;away&#8221;, she said.<\/p>\n<p>In late April that year, the CEO told her the payroll delay was because his bank accounts had been &#8220;blocked or flagged&#8221; because of &#8220;the amount of incoming investor funds&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The worker said she thought a team brought in from the UK for a week in May 2025 to work on app development were not paid either.<\/p>\n<p>In June that year, the worker said the CEO rented &#8220;a huge luxury office in a prominent location&#8221; and told her the office rent was &#8220;covered&#8221; for the next 36 months by an investor.<\/p>\n<p>The claimant said she had been waiting months for wages by then and had to take her car off the road because she could not afford to insure it.<\/p>\n<p>Her evidence was that the CEO &#8220;repeatedly urged staff on more than one occasion to continue to wait, assuring them that their wages would be paid in full&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The complainant quoted the CEO as saying payment was &#8220;absolutely guaranteed&#8221; on repeated occasions, the tribunal noted.<\/p>\n<p>There was an agreement in place that the worker was employed as &#8220;head of wellbeing development&#8221; with a gross annual salary of \u20ac150,000, the worker said.<\/p>\n<p>The worker gave evidence of receiving five payments between 6 November 2025 and 28 January 2026 of between \u20ac500 and \u20ac5,000, totalling \u20ac11,500.<\/p>\n<p>She said her mortgage had fallen into severe arrears, that she was behind on electricity bills and loan repayments, and that her family had suffered &#8220;considerable hardship&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The worker\u2019s evidence was that she was &#8220;unable to heat her home during freezing weather&#8221; and was at risk of the property being repossessed.<\/p>\n<p>She also suffered &#8220;marital difficulties as a result of the financial strain&#8221; she said, adding that her husband left her during the period at issue in the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Adjudicator Ewa Sobanska wrote in her decision that it was &#8220;regrettable&#8221; that the respondent company &#8220;chose not to attend&#8221; the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>She found on the basis of the worker\u2019s uncontested evidence that the worker was owed 11 months\u2019 salary at \u20ac12,500 a month, less the \u20ac11,500 that was paid.<\/p>\n<p>She directed the payment of gross unpaid wages of \u20ac126,000 to the worker.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A tech firm employee who signed up for a job with a \u20ac150,000-a-year salary, but ended up &#8220;unable to heat her home&#8221; having received just \u20ac11,500 in 11 months of employment has won a claim for her unpaid wages.
