Citizens Advice Guernsey has published its annual report which informs social policy in the island<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

Figures show the three highest-ranking issues for clients of Citizens Advice Guernsey (CAG) remained the same last year as 2024, although in a different order.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Problems with employment contract terms, access to affordable housing and consumer rights remained the key issues in 2025, the charity said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In this year’s report, consumer rights have moved from first to third position in terms of prevalence, which the charity said “would appear to indicate” the introduction of consumer legislation was having “a positive impact”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The charity said guest workers’ issues had risen “significantly” in ranking, adding it would publish a detailed report once analysis on 2025 data was complete.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Each year, CAG selects social policy areas for analysis based on the prevalence of its clients’ issues.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It said its advisers identified emerging trends and noted ongoing issues so policy-makers could be informed about the problems people were having.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It said its number of clients had “increased slightly” from just under 3,000 in 2024 to just over 3,000 in 2025.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

‘Serious issues’<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The charity said rising energy costs and poverty remained serious issues which “need addressing”, adding these issues affected “far more people” in the community than figures suggested.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

At the start of 2025, the charity moved to a new premises and adopted a new database system, meaning it was not possible to compare this year’s figures with previous reports, it said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Despite this, “broad trends” could still be identified, the charity added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In last year’s report, which was based on data from 2024, CAG sent reports to relevant States of Guernsey committees on discrimination, harassment and being treated differently, homelessness, and private rental deposits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
