Wind and solar energy group Greencoat Renewables has appointed former AIB chief executive Bernard Byrne as its new chairman.<\/p>\n

Mr Byrne will replace Greencoat’s current chairman R\u00f3n\u00e1n Murphy who has confirmed his intention to retire after the company’s AGM next May. Mr Murphy has been Greencoat’s chair and a non-executive director since the company’s IPO in 2017.<\/p>\n

Mr Byrne has been a Non-Executive Director at Greencoat Renewables and Chair of the Management Engagement Committee since May 2025.<\/p>\n

Most recently, Mr Byrne served as CEO of Davy and before joining the stockbrokers, Bernard was CEO of AIB Group.<\/p>\n

Before that he was Group Finance and Commercial Director at ESB, Deputy CEO and Finance Director of IWP International and Commercial Director of ESB International.<\/p>\n

He also currently serves as Chair of housebuilder Cairn Homes.<\/p>\n

R\u00f3n\u00e1n Murphy, Chair of the Greencoat Board, said it had been an honour to serve as Chair of Greencoat Renewables since the company’s IPO in 2017.<\/p>\n

“I am immensely proud of what the Board and management team have achieved since then, in building one of Europe’s leading renewable energy infrastructure companies. As we go through a transition period, I want to thank my fellow directors and our investment manager, Schroders Greencoat, for their support and wish them every success as they continue to play a leading role in enabling energy transition,” he added.<\/p>\n

Bernard Byrne said it was a privilege to be appointed Chair of Greencoat Renewables.<\/p>\n

“It has been exciting to play a role as director at one of Europe’s leading listed renewables companies since joining in May.
