An examination by the State’s spending watchdog, the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), has found “minimal evidence of checks” carried out by the Department of Rural and Community Development on whether recipients of grant funding for remote working hubs continued to satisfy eligibility conditions after project completion.<\/p>\n

The C&AG examination was undertaken to review the compliance with the funding framework in place for the delivery and operation of remote working hubs.<\/p>\n

The examination team found that one site completed in 2022, with substantial grant and other public funding, had not been added to the Connected Hubs network on completion.<\/p>\n

“Following examination inquiries, the site was added to the Connected Hubs network in August 2025,” the report found.<\/p>\n

In the sample of ten hubs reviewed, the C&AG said that project documentation was found to be largely in order, although it was noted in one case that required photographic evidence of project completion had not been submitted.<\/p>\n

“A coherent framework is required to ensure that funding is provided for defined purposes with clear conditions; double funding is avoided; effective post-project checks apply; and that safeguards are in place to protect State funding,” the report concludes.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
