{"id":1969,"date":"2025-02-15T08:39:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-15T13:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sharewatch.com\/wp\/2025\/02\/15\/dollar-declines-on-falling-us-yields\/"},"modified":"2025-02-15T08:39:00","modified_gmt":"2025-02-15T13:39:00","slug":"dollar-declines-on-falling-us-yields","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sharewatch.com\/wp\/2025\/02\/15\/dollar-declines-on-falling-us-yields\/","title":{"rendered":"Dollar Declines on Falling US Yields"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"layout__region nsdq-l-grid__item syndicated-article-body\">\n<section class=\"jupiter22-c-article-body\">\n<div class=\"body\">\n<div class=\"body__content\">\n<p>The dollar index (DXY00) on Friday fell by -0.52%, posting a new 2-month low and adding to Thursday\u2019s decline of -0.58%.\u00a0 The dollar was undercut by Friday\u2019s weak US retail sales report and a -5 bp decline in the 10-year T-note yield, which added to Thursday\u2019s decline of -9 bp.\u00a0 Also, there were continued fears about a global trade war after President Trump on Friday said that new tariffs on autos are coming around April 2.<\/p>\n<p>Friday\u2019s US Jan retail sales report of -0.9% was weaker than expectations of -0.2%.\u00a0 Excluding autos, Jan retail sales fell by -0.4%, weaker than expectations of +0.3%.\u00a0 Jan \u201ccontrol group\u201d retail sales, which excludes volatile sectors, fell by -0.8%, weaker than expectations of +0.3%.\u00a0 However, the retail sales report was undercut to some extent by the wildfires in California and severe weather in various areas of the country.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ads__inline\">\n<div id=\"js-dfp-tag-MUg\"  class=\"btf-bodymidpagetwothirdswidth-1\">          <script type=\"text\/javascript\">         googletag.cmd.push(function() {             \/\/ Check if ID matches ID in the window.adsList array before calling googletag.display             function isAdInAdsList(id) {             for (var i = 0;         }         });     <\/script> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In other US economic news, US Jan industrial production rose +0.5% m\/m, stronger than expectations of +0.3%.\u00a0However, Jan manufacturing production fell by -0.1%m\/m, weaker than expectations of +0.1% m\/m.<\/p>\n<p>US Jan import prices rose by +0.3% m\/m and +1.9% y\/y, which was close to expectations of +0.4% m\/m and +1.9% y\/y.\u00a0 Excluding petroleum, US Jan import prices rose by +0.1% m\/m, weaker than expectations of +0.2%.<\/p>\n<p>The markets are discounting the chances at 2% for a -25 bp rate cut at the next FOMC meeting on March 18-19.<\/p>\n<p>EUR\/USD (^EURUSD) on Friday rose by +0.28%, adding to Thursday\u2019s +0.79% rally.\u00a0 The euro has been boosted by hopes that talks could lead to a resolution of the Russian-Ukraine war.\u00a0 However, the risks rose in the Russian-Ukraine war after a drone strike Thursday night damaged the Chernobyl nuclear plant.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The euro was undercut this week by Thursday\u2019s announcement by the Trump administration of reciprocal tariffs by April 1, which are likely to involve significant tariffs on US imports from Europe that would likely damage the European economy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ads__inline\">\n<div id=\"js-dfp-tag-F2o\"  class=\"btf-bodymidpagetwothirdswidth-2\">          <script type=\"text\/javascript\">         googletag.cmd.push(function() {             \/\/ Check if ID matches ID in the window.adsList array before calling googletag.display             function isAdInAdsList(id) {             for (var i = 0;         }         });     <\/script> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Eurozone Q4 GDP report of +0.1% q\/q and +0.9% y\/y was close to expectations.\u00a0 Eurozone Q4 employment of +0.1% q\/q and +0.6% y\/y was slightly weaker than expectations of +0.2% q\/q and +1.0% y\/y.<\/p>\n<p>Swaps are discounting the chances at 100% for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at the March 6 policy meeting.<\/p>\n<p>USD\/JPY (^USDJPY) fell -0.34%, adding to Thursday\u2019s decline of -1.05%.\u00a0The yen continued to benefit from hawkish comments Thursday from Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba, who said the Japanese economy is on its way to achieving sustainable inflation backed by wage growth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"taboola-placeholder\">\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article-thumbnails\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>                 <script type=\"text\/javascript\">                     !function (e, f, u) {                     e.async = 1;
