{"id":15757,"date":"2025-07-20T16:22:58","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T20:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sharewatch.com\/wp\/2025\/07\/20\/govt-plans-to-inject-additional-e30bn-into-infrastructure\/"},"modified":"2025-07-20T16:22:58","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T20:22:58","slug":"govt-plans-to-inject-additional-e30bn-into-infrastructure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sharewatch.com\/wp\/2025\/07\/20\/govt-plans-to-inject-additional-e30bn-into-infrastructure\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt plans to inject additional \u20ac30bn into infrastructure"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"medium-10 medium-offset-1 columns article-body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-epic-field=\"content\">\n<p>The Government is finalising a major investment plan to inject up to \u20ac30 billion of additional funding into Ireland&#8217;s infrastructure between 2026 and 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Coalition leaders and senior ministers met last night to agree the final details of the revised National Development Plan that will take expected overall investment in the State\u2019s infrastructure over the next five to six years up to nearly \u20ac100bn.<\/p>\n<p>The additional funding has been part-financed by the sale of AIB shares and back-tax paid by iPhone-maker Apple.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Jack Chambers said the revised NDP &#8220;gives an opportunity for transformation and investment&#8221; in the Irish economy over the next five to ten years.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on RT\u00c9&#8217;s This Week, he said \u20ac10bn will be set aside for &#8220;specific strategic investment&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s across three specific areas &#8211; the water and wastewater infrastructure, the Metro project but prior to 2030, and also the necessity to provide investment in our grid, and we&#8217;ll set out the specific details around that on Tuesday,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked where the extra \u20ac10bn is coming from, the minister said it is &#8220;part of our medium-term economic planning&#8221;, adding that Government are prioritising capital investment over the medium-to-long term.<\/p>\n<p>He said there is an &#8220;additional uplift&#8221; is needed to address areas that &#8220;can&#8217;t wait any further on&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Chambers said the timeline of the Metro is dependent on the planning system, adding that they are trying to set out a longer-term profile to support the delivery of that project.<\/p>\n<p alt=\"Minister Jack Chambers on the shortage in housing and water, and the N...\" class=\"tpe\" data-description=\"With a chronic shortage of housing, a water supply which cannot meet demand, and an electricity grid creaking at the seams, there's plenty to talk about with the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Jack Chambers. \" data-embed=\"rte-player\" data-id=\"22532027\" data-ot-category=\"C0004\" data-title=\"With a chronic shortage of housing, a water supply which cannot meet demand, and an electricity grid creaking at the seams, there's plenty to talk about with the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Jack Chambers. \"><span class=\"blocked-container\"><span class=\"blocked-heading\">We need your consent to load this rte-player content<\/span><span class=\"blocked-notice\">We use rte-player to manage extra content that can set cookies on your device and collect data about your activity.
