Both Dublin and Cork airports had their busiest ever May, according to figures from operator daa.<\/p>\n

More than 3,257,700 passengers travelled through Dublin Airport during the month – up 4.2% on May 2024.<\/p>\n

Daa said that Dublin Airport handled more than 100,000 passengers on all bar one day of the month – with 120,000 travelling through it on three days in May. This breaks the previous daily record for May at the airport, which stood at 115,000 people.<\/p>\n

Last year the High Court suspended Dublin Airport’s passenger cap for the summer pending the determination of a challenge to it taken by airlines. It has led to a rise in the number of flights being offered by airlines year-on-year.<\/p>\n

There were a further 135,376 people who used Dublin Airport for connecting flights, though this number was down slightly on May 2024.<\/p>\n

Cork Airport, meanwhile, saw its passenger numbers rise 17% year-on-year to 330,000 people.<\/p>\n

The operator said that was led by a 20% rise in passenger numbers over the course of the May bank holiday weekend, while a number of new routes have also boosted demand.<\/p>\n

London’s Heathrow and Stansted Airports were the top two most popular destinations for passengers departing Cork Airport, followed by Faro in Portugal and Malaga in Spain.<\/p>\n

“We’re also looking to Cork Airport\u2019s future and were delighted to welcome the Taoiseach to the airport in May to mark the announcement of our \u20ac200m investment plan,” said daa CEO Kenny Jacobs. “This supports Cork Airport to grow beyond 5m passengers a year and will further boost tourism, industry and foreign direct investment throughout the South of Ireland in the coming years.”<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
