Consumer prices rose by 1.8% on an annual basis in March, compared with 1.4% a month earlier, a flash estimate of the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) from the Central Statistics Office shows today.
This marked the highest level in almost a year.
Inflation here was the second lowest in the euro zone in February when consumer prices were 2.3% higher on average year-on-year across the bloc.
Core Irish HICP, which excludes energy and unprocessed food, was unchanged at 2% in March.
Today’s CSO figures show that food prices are estimated to have gone up by 0.8% in March on a monthly basis and increased by 3.2% in the last 12 months.
Transport costs have risen by 2% in the month and are up by 1.7% in the 12 months to March of this year.
The corresponding rate for the euro zone will be published tomorrow.
