Yuno Energy has said it is freezing prices for its 100,000 electricity and gas customers this winter.
The move means the supplier’s customers will not see a price increase until next March at the earliest.
However, Yuno hiked its prices by 9.5% for electricity and by 11% for gas in July – increases that added around €168 to an average household’s annual electricity bill, and roughly €156 to yearly gas bills.
Commenting on the freeze, Yuno Energy’s managing director Margaret O’Connor said: “We know energy costs are a real concern for households, particularly heading into winter, so we want to reassure customers that they won’t face price increases from us.”
Earlier this week, PrepayPower – Yuno’s sister company and the country’s largest pay-as-you-go electricity and gas supplier – also announced a prize freeze for the winter for its roughly 200,000 customers.
Meanwhile Electric Ireland has said it will not increase its prices again this year, after raising its electricity and gas tariffs in July.
Most of the main energy providers have hiked their rates for customers this year.
The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) has published enhanced protection measures for energy customers for this winter, including a change to repayment terms for customers who are in arrears.
Latest figures from the CRU show that in July 14% (322,234) of domestic electricity customers were in arrears, while over a quarter (27% or 188,882) of domestic gas customers were behind on their bills.
