Global leasing giant Avolon said today it had agreed to order 140 aircraft from Boeing and 110 from Airbus, with an option to buy a further 100 jets from the European planemaker.
Dublin-based Avolon, a subsidiary of China’s Bohai Leasing, said the order comprised of 140 Boeing 737 MAX jets, 75 Airbus A320neo planes and 35 A330neos, with options for a further 100 unspecified Airbus aircraft.
The orders bring the total number of aircraft the world’s third-largest aircraft lessor has on order to 749 aircraft, on top of the 561 it currently owns.
Andy Cronin, Avolon’s CEO, said the company continues to see strong demand for new-technology aircraft, reflected in its placement and trading activity this quarter.
“Against that backdrop, we are pleased to have reached agreements with Airbus and Boeing that strengthen and extend our long-term delivery pipeline,” the CEO said.
“These orders further enhance our ability to support the future fleet requirements of our airline customers as they renew and expand their fleets into the most fuel-efficient technology available,” he added.
The company also said today that it had bought 10 planes and sold 29 during the third quarter, with a further 112 aircraft agreed for sale at the end of September.
It also executed 84 lease agreements, extensions and amendments during the three months from July to September.
