New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for September fell by 1,000 people to reach 172,200 people.
The CSO said the unadjusted Live Register total stood at 167,193 people for September, an increase of 1,950 people, or 1.2%, when compared with September of last year.
56% of those signing on the Live Register were men, the CSO noted.
Today’s figures show that the 25 to 34 years age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in September at 24.4% of the total.
The counties that recorded the largest percentage increases in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to September were Dublin, which saw a rise of 5.4%, while the numbers i Longford were up 3.5%.
The largest falls on the Live Register were recorded in Monaghan, with the numbers there signing on dropping by 10.9%, while Kerry saw a fall of 7.2%
The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment as it includes part-time workers as well as seasonal and casual workers who are entitled to Jobseeker’s Benefit or Jobseeker’s Allowance.
Figures earlier this week from the CSO showed that the country’s unemployment figure was unchanged at 5% in September compared to August but was up from 4.9% in September of last year.
