Almost 789,000 foreign visitors completed a trip to Ireland in August of this year, according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office.
That’s a 2% increase compared to the same month last year and up 3% compared with August 2024.
So far this year, 4.7 million overnight foreign visitors came to the country, an increase of 11% compared with January to August 2025.
The average length of stay for tourists was 8.3 nights, slightly down from 8.6 nights in August last year.
More than one third of all visitors came from Britain – the largest share of all tourists, followed by those visiting from continental Europe and North America.
More than half of all foreign visitors said the main purpose of their trip was for holidays and leisure, while 33% were visiting friends and family. Business trips made up 8% of all visits.
Tourists are estimated to have spent €729 million in Ireland in August alone.
The figure is 2% lower than last year, and 11% lower than in August 2024 (€820 million).
