Staff at South Dublin County Council, who are members of the Fórsa trade union, have paused planned industrial action which was due to begin on Monday.

The parties have agreed to attend talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) on Tuesday morning.

The union had issued notice of industrial action in a dispute over outsourcing.

The action was to take the form of a work-to-rule.

Workers had threatened to take part in lunchtime protests and to refuse to carry out a number of tasks as part of the dispute.

The row relates to the outsourcing of work by the council’s legal department, specifically, the engagement of external solicitors for debt recovery of rates arrears.

Fórsa claimed that no meaningful engagement with management had taken place, despite the union’s efforts to do so.
