New figures from the Central Statistics Office show the total number of electric charging locations in Ireland stood at 1,125 by the end of last year.
The CSO said there were a total number of 3,416 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSEs) or charging points and 3,662 connectors.
The number of fast chargers was 1,883, which was 55% of the total charging points.
The CSO noted that 82% of the charging locations were located in urban areas, where 76% of the EVSEs, 75% of the fast chargers and 76% of the connectors were also located.
Today’s CSO figures show there was one charging point for every 30 EVs, and one fast charger for every 54 EVs.
Co Dublin and Co Cork together accounted for 30% of the national charging locations, with 34% of the total charging points (EVSEs) and 34% of the total fast charging points.
At the other end of the scale, Co Leitrim had the lowest share of charging locations at 0.4%, with five locations, 0.3% of charging points with 11 locations, and 0.4% of fast charger points with seven.
Meanwhile, the CSO said that in the EU-27 in May of this year, 19% of the public chargers were fast chargers.
Latvia had the highest percentage of fast chargers at 59% and the Netherlands and Malta the lowest at 4%.
Across the EU-27 there was one charging point for every seven EVs. The Netherlands reported the lowest number with three EVs per charger and Malta the highest at 91 EVs per charger.
For fast chargers, the EU-27 average was one fast charger for 37 EVs, with Latvia having the lowest number with one fast charger per nine EVs, while Malta had the highest at one charger for every 2,595 EVs.
