Dunnes Stores has recalled 1,564 five-pair packs of pink marl baby socks after a complaint to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).
A caller to the CCPC helpline said a loose thread from one of the socks had wrapped tightly around their baby’s toe, causing it to swell.
The child was brought to hospital and surgical intervention was needed to remove the thread.
The CCPC alerted Dunnes Stores to the danger and the chain has now recalled the socks, which are size 0-2½.
Grainne Griffin from the CCPC thanked the parent for letting them know.
“Calls to our helpline guide our work and we will always prioritise issues concerning the safety of consumers,” she said.
“Dunnes Stores has engaged constructively with us and have recalled these baby socks. If you think you have a pack of these socks, please stop using them. If you still have the packaging, check the product code and batch number.
“Consumers should dispose of the socks or return them to Dunnes Stores for a refund.”
The style number of the socks in question is 7302430 and the serial number is 5099015690097. They were removed from sale in December 2024.
