Dublin and California-headquartered fintech Stripe has reportedly agreed a $7 billion deal to buy AI marketplace OpenRouter.

OpenRouter gives users access to a wide range of AI models, allowing them to choose the best-suited or best-value rather be tied to a single platform.

It was founded three years ago, and secured a $1.3 billion valuation following a fund-raising round in May.

Stripe – which was founded by John and Patrick Collison – specialises in payment processing but has been rapidly growing into other areas of financial services and digital transactions.

It has also been adding AI features, including automated fraud detection and the development of a payments-focused model.

Last month Stripe partnered with private equity firm Advent International to make a $53 billion takeover bid for PayPal.

Stripe employs around 10,000 people globally. Last year it opened its new headquarters in Dublin, which saw it triple the amount of office space it had in the city.
