Nestlé said today it has agreed a deal to sell its former Wyeth Nutritionals manufacturing site in Askeaton in Co Limerick to US firm Pfanstiehl for an undisclosed sum.
Pfanstiehl, founded in 1919 and headquartered in Illinois, develops, manufactures and supplies high purity injectable excipients and bioprocessing components for the global biopharmaceutical and life science industries.
Nestlé said the company is a critical supply partner for the world’s biopharmaceutical leaders in protein/antibody drugs, vaccines, and cell & gene therapy.
Today’s deal follows Nestlé’s announcement in October 2023 of its decision to cease operations at the Askeaton site. The facility formally closed at the end of March 2026 as planned.
Since that, Nestlé has implemented a support programme for employees affected by the closure, including a dedicated outplacement support hub, providing career guidance, job-search assistance, and access to upskilling and training opportunities.
The programme also offered financial, pension, and retirement planning supports to assist employees in their transition to new roles.
“The agreement with Pfanstiehl represents the successful outcome of this process, enabling continued industrial use of the facility,” the company added.
