Penneys has today opened its extended and fully refurbished store in Dooradoyle after a “significant” €7m investment in the Limerick store.
The redevelopment project at the Crescent Shopping Centre is part of Penneys’ ongoing commitment to investing in the Irish retail sector.
Originally opened in 1980, Penneys has been a key part of Limerick’s local economy for over 40 years.
The newly revamped Penneys store has been transformed and has almost doubled in size, expanding from 13,400 square feet to 24,600 square feet.
The new store employs 135 people, including about 30 new jobs created this summer to support the bigger store.
Fintan Costello, Head of Penneys Ireland and Northern Ireland, said the €7m investment reflects the company’s continued commitment to Limerick and follows the refurbishment of its O’Connell Street store last summer.
Eimear Dwan, Marketing Manager at the Crescent Shopping Centre, said she was thrilled to see the expansion of Penneys Crescent Shopping Centre.
“There was huge excitement and anticipation building over the last while, and I can’t wait to see our customers enjoy this new space,” she added.
This refurbishment marks the latest step in Penneys’ plan to invest €250m in new and existing stores over a 10-year period, including the development of a €75m distribution centre in Newbridge, Co Kildare, which is set to open later this year.
