Stephen Donnelly has been appointed a non-executive director of Premier Lotteries Ireland, which operates the Lotto here.
PLI said Mr Donnelly brought “extensive experience” in public policy, healthcare reform and complex system design. It also cited his analytical and strategic capabilities.
“He brings a unique combination of deep public policy experience, strategic insight, and analytical rigour, built across both government and international consultancy,” said National Lottery CEO Cian Murphy.
“His perspective will be invaluable and will join a diverse and experienced board of Irish and international directors, whose collective expertise will help guide this important State asset through the second half of its Licence and strengthen the contribution we make to Good Causes across Ireland.”
Mr Donnelly last year joined British health consultancy firm Carnall Farrar (CF) as a partner. That came after he failed to secure re-election as a Fianna Fáil TD in the 2024 General Election.
Mr Donnelly was first elected to the Dáil as an independent TD for Wicklow in 2011.
In 2015 he helped to form the Social Democrats, serving as its co-leader with TDs Róisín Shortall and Catherine Murphy, and was elected under the party banner in 2016.
He stepped down from the Social Democrats the following year, before joining Fianna Fáil in 2017.
He was elected as a Fianna Fáil TD in 2020 and served as Minister for Health for the duration of the 33rd Dáil, but lost his seat in 2024.
Before entering politics, Mr Donnelly had worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company.
