Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke has said that it is his understanding that redundancies at TikTok’s Irish operation will take effect in April.
Around 300 jobs are at risk at its Dublin headquarters, where almost 3,000 people are employed.
TikTok has not commented on the matter or disclosed the exact number of job cuts.
The Department of Enterprise received a collective redundancy notification from TikTok on Tuesday following a February announcement by the company that it would be undergoing global restructuring.
“My first thoughts are with the employees impacted by this announcement along with their families,” Mr Burke said.
“My department, along with our agencies, will work to support workers affected in the period ahead as they pursue alternative employment.
“TikTok is a significant employer in Ireland and as part of the proposed restructuring, [the] Government understands that there may be a number of open roles available to employees who are at risk of being made redundant.”
Mr Burke said that Ireland is close to full employment.
“Nonetheless I know this announcement will be very difficult for those impacted and Government is fully committed to supporting affected staff,” he added.
