The euro zone economy grew by 0.1% in the fourth quarter, official data showed today, a welcome revision after preliminary figures showed growth slowed to a halt.
The data was unchanged for annual growth for 2024 at 0.7% in the 20-country single currency area, according to the Eurostat statistics agency.
For the 27-nation European Union as a whole, however, the data was revised upward to 0.9% – from the 0.8% estimate in January.
The figure is now in line with predictions in January by analysts at Bloomberg and FactSet, who at the time forecast a 0.1% expansion.
The EU’s official statistics agency also revised fourth quarter growth for the EU as a whole to 0.2%, up from 0.1% estimated in January.
The data for the euro zone from Eurostat was unchanged for the third quarter of 2024, registering growth of 0.4%.
