Uisce Éireann has issued a call for its customers to sign up for free text alerts and stay informed as an unprecedented €10 billion programme of water infrastructure upgrades continues nationwide.

Over the next five years Uisce Éireann’s ongoing capital investment programme will focus on tackling water leakages, repairing pipes, reducing water supply outages, and upgrading water treatment plants.

It said the investment programme will see hundreds of live projects under way in every corner of Ireland to improve water quality, security and resilience.

However, it warned that short-term disruptions are inevitable while this work is being carried out.

It said this is why it is essential for customers to stay informed.

So far, only one eighth of the two million homes and businesses supplied by Uisce Éireann have signed up for the free text alerts.

The text service delivers real-time updates to customers, tailored to their local area, to help them prepare for any interruptions.

This includes up-to-the-minute alerts about water outages, boil water notices, and other supply interruptions expected to last longer than four hours.

Since the service was launched in 2024, over one million text alerts have been issued.

Geoffrey Bourke, Head of Customer Operations with Uisce Éireann, said he strongly encourages everyone to sign up and stay connected as the public utility company continues its unprecedented programme of upgrades.

To sign up customers should visit the website and enter their Eircode and mobile phone number.

The service is free and available to all households and businesses.

People can also sign up on behalf of loved ones to ensure they receive timely updates.
