New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the Live Register increased by 2,200 people (1.3%) to stand at 168,500 in June compared to May.
The CSO said the unadjusted Live Register total stood at 172,663 people for June, of which 54.1% were men.
Today’s figures show that the 25-34 years age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in June at 23.8% of the total.
They also reveal that the counties with the largest percentage increases in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to June were Dublin, with an increase of 4.2% while Kildare saw a rise of 2.4%.
The largest decreases were in Kerry with a big drop of 17.4% and numbers signing on in Clare fell by 12.8%.
The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment as it includes part-time workers as well as seasonal and casual workers who are entitled to Jobseeker’s Benefit or Jobseeker’s Allowance.
Figures earlier this week from the CSO showed that the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4% in June from a month earlier and down from 4.4% in June last year.
