The Tannery restaurant in Dungarvan, Co Waterford has announced it will close its doors next year after three decades.
Husband and wife team Paul and Maura Flynn said they were making the decision on their own terms, and that they’ll continue to run the Tannery Townhouse and Cookery School on a seasonal basis.
Speaking to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Ms Flynn said it was a difficult decision, and they put a lot of thought into it but decides the time was right.
She said that and she and her husband didn’t want to get caught up in any negativity around hospitality that is associated with it at the moment.
Mr Flynn said that it is getting more difficult all the time to run a restaurant or a small business and given their age, they felt that they needed to slow down after having had a great run.
“We hope to finish up in style and have a good year, and have a long goodbye.”
