An investigation by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) into the grocery retailer sector found there is no evidence indicating any issues regarding competition among retailers in terms of food prices.

The Commission says that although consumers have seen a 27% rise in grocery prices since 2021, that is still well below the average EU increase of 35%.

It also found no issues around competition among retailers and that profit margins were in line with what is happening in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

However, the CCPC noted that since last year the prices of some agricultural products such as meat and dairy have risen considerably more here than they have in the rest of Europe
