RTÉ is assessing a potential cyber security threat after being contacted by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
“RTÉ was contacted by the National Cyber Security Centre over the weekend regarding information it had become aware of,” an RTÉ spokesperson said.
“RTÉ is currently reviewing this information and assessing its veracity,” the broadcaster added.
RTÉ did not comment on the nature of the information it has received.
The Department of Justice, which has responsibility for the NCSC, has been contacted for comment.
The most recent published figures from the NCSC show it received 5,276 reports in 2023, 721 of which were confirmed as cybersecurity incidents.
This led to the opening of 309 investigations.
According to the report, the vast majority of incidents were categorised as being at the lower end of the severity scale.
There were no incidents reported in 2023 that were deemed severe enough to be in the top two categories.
The potential cyber security threat at RTÉ was first reported by The Irish Times.
