The company behind Classic Hits Radio, Radio Nova and Sunshine 106.8 has been given the go ahead to buy Galway Bay FM.
The Competition Consumer and Protection Commission has cleared Bay Broadcasting’s proposed purchase of Western Community Broadcasting Holdings, which runs the Galway station.
The CCPC, which reviews mergers and acquisitions, had opened a preliminary investigation into the proposed takeover last month.
The consumer watchdog said it has formed the view that “the proposed transaction will not substantially lessen competition in any market for goods or services in the State.”
The Commission is to publish the reasons for its determination in the coming weeks, after it allows the parties involved the opportunity to request that confidential information be removed from the published version.
