Fixed broadband subcriber lines increased to 1.7 million between January and March, up 2.7% on the same time last year.

The figures from the Commission for Communications Regulation, ComReg, show that 908,886 of these were fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) subscriber lines, representing 53% of all total fixed broadband subcriber lines.

FTTP lines are now the most purchased broadband technology in Ireland and are available at 76% of all premises in Ireland. Gigabit broadband is available at 86% of all premises here.

On a monthly basis, an average residential fixed broadband subscriber line used 503.8 GB of data, an increase of 17% on the same period last year.

Businesses used 345.4 GB of data, an increase of 17%.

Total mobile subscriptions, including mobile broadband and machine-to-machine increased to 10.4 million in the first quarter of this year – driven by a rise in bill pay subscriptions which represent 77% of all mobile subscriptions.

5G subscribers increased to 2.1 million, an increase of 32% since the same time last year.

On a monthly basis, an average mobile voice subscriber used 155 minutes, and sent 33 texts – a fall on the previous year.

Meanwhile, data usage increased by 0.68% to 18.8GB.
