RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst will lead a delegation of the broadcaster’s leadership team to Leinster House, where they will be appearing before the Oireachtas Committee on Media.

The broadcaster is the first organisation to be invited to appear before the newly formed committee during this Dáil term.

The meeting, chaired by Labour TD Alan Kelly, will discuss a wide range of topics, including the €3.6 million IT system write-down.

In April, RTÉ confirmed that it had written down a figure of €3.6 million on a partly failed IT system, which was one of the projects funded from the proceeds of the sale of land at its Dublin site in 2017.

Mr Bakhurst will tell the committee that it was “extremely regrettable” that public money was used to write-down the partly failed IT system.

However, he will also say it was “an outlier” within RTÉ’s overall capital expenditure portfolio.

RTÉ will also update TDs and senators on payments that it has made as part of a process to settle the employment status of around 650 workers.

Mr Bakhurst will also say that RTÉ has developed “a new strategy which commits to significant transformation of its working and financial model over the years ahead”.

RTÉ’s delegation, including chairperson Terence O’Rourke and several other senior figures, will appear before the committee at 12.30pm.
