US company Liberty Mutual Insurance said it has entered a consultation period with 112 employees across the island of Ireland which may result in redundancies.

The impacted workers support Liberty’s US retail markets business.

“We continually explore opportunities to enhance our business and service models to gain efficiencies that will make Liberty Mutual Insurance more competitive to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers,” the company said in a statement.

“Sometimes this results in growth in some areas of our operations, while other areas may experience a reduction in necessary resources,” the company said.

“In an effort to create a more efficient claims-handling organisation, we have entered a consultation period with 112 employees across the island of Ireland that support our US retail markets business which may result in identifying redundancies,” it added.

Liberty added that the action will not impact its Liberty IT technology teams based in Belfast, Dublin and Galway.

“Liberty IT have recently made a significant investment in our Dublin and Galway operations and plans remain in place to grow our technology presence across the island of Ireland,” the company said in a statement.

In June 2023, Liberty IT opened a new hub in Galway, creating 100 new jobs.

Liberty IT develops technologies for its parent company Liberty Mutual Insurance.

Last year, Italian insurance giant Generali acquired Liberty’s Irish insurance business and rebranded it as RedClick.
