New figures from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, show that euro area annual inflation fell to 2.2% in March from 2.3% in February.
Euro zone inflation had stood at 2.4% in March of last year.
Today’s figures show that the lowest annual rates of inflation were registered in France (0.9%), Denmark (1.4%), Luxembourg (1.5%) and Ireland (1.8%).
The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (5.1%), Hungary (4.8%) and Poland (4.4%).
Eurostat said that compared with February, annual inflation fell in 16 member states, remained stable in one and rose in ten.
The highest contribution to the annual euro area inflation rate came from services, followed by food, alcohol & tobacco, non-energy industrial goods and energy, Eurostat said.
