Private provider of home care services Dovida has announced the creation of 1,500 jobs across Ireland.

The company, which has recently rebranded from Home Instead, delivers care to almost 8,000 clients.

The roles will be both full- and part-time positions.

Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke has welcomed the announcement.

Speaking at Dovida’s midlands base in Mullingar this afternoon, Minister Burke said it was a “very positive development for communities across the country”.

“Carers play an essential role in society, supporting people to live independently and with dignity in their own homes,” said Minister Burke.

“Dovida’s commitment to high-quality care and the creation of up to 1,500 jobs is a real boost – not only in terms of employment but also in the standard of support available to individuals and families,” he said.

CEO of Dovida Ireland Shane Jennings said the company has been expanding its services in recent times to support people living with an acquired brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Motor neuron disease.

He said the company is also helping children and young adults with additional needs.

“There’s waiting lists around the country and that’s why we are expanding and trying to get new carers in,” said Mr Jennings.

Applications for the jobs are now open and the company said it hopes to have filled the vacancies by the end of the year.

“It’s going to be a huge challenge and it’s ambitious. We’ve run campaigns before though and we’ve been successful and thankfully Dovida has grown its capacity year on year and we’re retaining staff,” said Mr Jennings.

“We’ve students who work for us and others who have other commitments, so there’s flexible hours for people who want to work with us,” he added.

Dovida has 25 locations across Ireland and has a presence in six countries including Ireland, Australia, France, Netherlands, New Zealand and Switzerland.
