RTÉ plans to open its Voluntary Exit Programme (VEP) after Easter, according to the broadcaster’s HR Director, with a cap of €300,000 on payments.

In an email to staff this afternoon, Eimear Cusack outlined further details about the scheme.

She confirmed that RTÉ is planning to open the VEP after the Easter weekend, possibly on Wednesday 23 April, provided all necessary materials have been finalised.

The VEP will remain open for four weeks and consists of Voluntary Severance – which will be available to employees aged under 55 – and Voluntary Early Retirement, which will be available to employees aged 55 and over.

Staff who wish to apply must have at least two years of continuous service.

Ms Cusack also reiterated that members of RTÉ’s Leadership Team will not be eligible to apply, as previously stated by Director General Kevin Bakhurst.

She said that “all those whose applications are accepted within the terms of the scheme will leave the organisation this year; on or before 31st December 2025,” adding that “the terms will replicate the 2017 and 2021 schemes, with a cap of €300k on payments”.

The approval of a redundancy plan at RTÉ by the Government was confirmed on 28 March.

This comes as part of a five-year strategy announced in 2023 where the broadcaster outlined a plan to reduce staff numbers by up to 400.
