A major electricity interconnector linking Co Wexford to Wales has been sold in a deal which values the infrastructure at €1 billion.
The Greenlink interconnector, which carries enough power to run 380,000 homes, was sold to London-based Equitix and Norway’s Baltic Cable by Partners Group which was acting on behalf of international clients.
The cable runs between EirGrid’s Great Island substation in Wexford and Pembrokeshire in Wales.
Construction on the cable began in 2022 and it became fully operational this year.
The interconnector allows surplus power to be traded between Britain and Ireland and provides energy security.
The Greenlink 504 mega watt interconnector is regulated by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) in Ireland and Ofgem in the UK.
