New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that wholesale electricity prices rose by 22.3% in January compared to the prevous month and were 67.7% higher than January last year.
The CSO said that wholesale electricity prices are 56.8% lower when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022.
Producer prices for food products also increased by 7.6% in the 12 months to January.
Some of the most notable changes in producer prices for food products were seen in dairy products, with prices jumping by 18.6%, while other food products rose by 8.6%, meat and meat products were up 4.1%, while grain milling, starches and animal feeds fell by 2.9%.
Overall, wholesale price inflation increased in January with 0.1% growth in the overall Producer Price Index for manufacturing industries in the month.
The CSO said the price index for export sales was up by 0.1% since December 2024, while the index for home sales was up 0.5% in the month.
Producer prices for products sold on the domestic market were 1.4% higher in January this year compared with January 2024.
In the 12 months to January, export producer prices rose by 2.1% while overall producer prices were up by 2.1%, the CSO said.
