Joint liquidators have been appointed to lithium battery maker Xerotech which is based in Baile Chláir in Co Galway.

The company employs 100 people.

Luke Charleton and Alan Large of EY-Parthenon’s Turnaround and Restructuring Strategy team were appointed as joint liquidators today.

They are now commencing a process to seek out potential purchasers for the business and other assets of Xerotech.

“The aim of this sales process will be to sell the trade and assets to secure the Xerotech business and to protect employment if possible,” the liquidators said in a statement.

Last month, a number of schools and businesses were evacuated following an incident at the Xerotech lithium battery production plant in the Claregalway Corporate Park.

The incident centred around an exothermic chemical reaction in a container in which lithium batteries were being stored.

“The joint liquidators are aware of the incident that occurred at the Xerotech site prior to the appointment and will be seeking to ensure the continued safety at the site while in occupation,” the liquidators said.
